How the Sunshine State Reacted to the American Revolution - What was life like in Florida in 1776? How did its culture and politics differ from the original 13 colonies? As a colony loyal to the British Crown, Florida played a unique role in opposing the rebellious colonies to the north during the American Revolution. Yet some Floridians embraced revolutionary ideas that later shaped our path to statehood in 1845. Through a dynamic multimedia presentation, this class explores Florida’s distinctive history—a story as rich and unique as the state itself.
