Upper Santa Fe River and Olustee Creek Paddle

Course number : NAT0068

« back to classes page
This round-trip (up and back) paddle on the upper Santa Fe River will take us to the confluence of Olustee Creek. The high, sandy banks speak to a fascinating story about this area's formation and geology but might not appeal to those who prefer wetland communities. History buffs will enjoy passing the site of Mission Santa Fe (the river's namesake. No visible remains) and other stories of the area's past. Possible wildlife includes gators, upland and hardwood bird species, wood ducks, deer, beaver and otter. We could even see capybaras! (One of your guide's many stories:). Difficulty: This is a round trip paddle, meaning we'll paddle upstream, against a very light current for the first half of the tour. Not suitable for those with limited physical abilities or endurance.
